Waterwoningen Waterbuurt-West Steigereiland-Noord IJburg Amsterdam Oost
Based on a design competition by Villanova architects, the development combination Waterbuurt West was commissioned by the municipality of Amsterdam in 2001 to develop a floating residential neighborhood in IJburg. It includes jetties, 83 apartments, 1750 m2 of business space, 100 parking spaces in the quay building, 55 floating homes, 17 stilt houses and 3 stilt houses in the basin. A total of 158 homes. The water houses were designed by architect Marlies Rohmer and realized by ABC Arkenbouw and Koning Bouw. They are available in three variants. In addition, there are vacant, more expensive homes.
The detached owner-occupied houses float in Waterbuurt-West; a high-density neighborhood. The houses were built at a shipyard in Urk and then installed on site. The houses are anchored to two mooring posts and therefore connected to the waterbed. The water houses were completed in 2011.
The quay building at IJburglaan 173-449 was designed by Liesbeth van der Pol of dok architects. The apartment building is 200 meters long and also functions as a noise barrier. The quay building consists of five floors with commercial space in the basement with a superstructure with housing on top. On the street side, the building looks grand with dark concrete buttresses. In the transition to the waterfront via the gates, the building looks lighter and fits in with the loose buildings at the jetty points. The design and construction period ran from 2001-2009. The construction period ran from 2006 to 2009. The quay building was constructed by contractor Van der Vorm in collaboration with Teerenstra Bouw. Photo John Gundlach.
